A text makes me arrive my friend Lorenzo Olano from Jose Luis Sampedro that I have published to publish it here. Who still does not know it, the General Society of Authors has been years trying to impose to the libraries a canon by the book loan, that would result in a strong load for the same and therefore a serious damage for the citizens of this country.

When I was a boy, in the Spain of 1931, a National Teacher called D. Right G lived in Aranjuez. Escudero Lezamit. On the verge of retiring, it even went to the school Saturdays in the morning although it did not have classes because there, in a despachito that had yielded to him, it took care of his library circulating. It was hers because he had created it only, with books donated by friendly, institutions and parents of students. Its “young and adult éramos clients”, men and women to those who only received fifty pennies to the month to lend to everyone a book to the week. There I discovered to Dickens and to Baroja, I read to Salgari and Karl May. Many years later I made a visit to a bibliotequita of a Madrilenian town. It very did not seem to be frequented, but position had become recently a titled young person whom it had devised to create an exclusive corner for the children with a moquette piece to seat them. At the outset the mothers welcomed the idea with affection because she served to them as day-care center. After gathering to his children in they left them there to the school awhile while they finished making his purchases, but when they returned to by them, it was not rare that the children, intrigued by the end, asked to remain a rat more until finishing the story who were reading.
During the delay, the mothers looked around, took some book they leafed through, it and sometimes also they were pledged. Time later I found out that the experience had borne its fruits: some readers were women who never had read before a simple moquette into the hands of a young librarian discovered other worlds to them. And still more years later I discovered another prodigy in a great hospital of Valencia. The library of attention to the patient, with that they as much mitigate the long delays and anguishes of relatives as of the own patients, was created by initiative and voluntarism of an employee. With a cart of the loaded donated book supermarket, taking a walk by the different plants, with long peregrinations and fights with the administration trying to convince to bureaucrats and doctors not always abiertos to other considerations, of which the knowledge and the pleasure that it provides the reading can contribute to the treatment, after the years has managed to equip alhospital and their users of a library with a service of loans and actividadesque are court favorite to him, besides prestige and admiration of whatever we have happened that way, a prize of the union of booksellers in recognition to its work in favor of the book.
I now evoke these three among the many examples of tenacity librarian, when finding out to me that the threat of the payment loan resurges. It is tried to force the libraries to pay 20céntimos by each book lent for canon to repay – that says to the authors of the wearing down of the loan. I remain confused and I do not understand anything. In the current life the one that pays a sum is because:
a) it obtains something in return.
b) it is object of a sanction.

And I ask myself: what obtains a public library, once paid the acquisition of the book to lend it? Or she is that he must be fined to fulfill his mission, that is indeed that one, the one to lend books and to foment the reading? On the other hand, what is worn away to them to the authors in the operation. Perhaps they stopped receiving by the book. Less will be read to them for being given readings. They will sell less or it will serve as publicity the loan to them like when a factory gives samples of its products?
But, mainly: It is wanted to foment the reading? Europe less prefers read richer authors but? I do not understand that mercantile Europe. Personally I prefer that they read to me and I am I who feel like indebted with the work librarian in the diffusion of my work. They know it who, without asking, they try to defend my interests to me of author loading itself to the libraries. I have signed against that measurement in different occasions and me one again from the campaign. NOT TO THE LOAN OF PAYMENT IN LIBRARIES!
